This spring, we took a road trip to Amarillo, Texas, to experience part of Route 66 and hike Palo Duro Canyon. The drive was over 4 hours, but well worth it.
There is so much to do, we just did not have the time to do it all - especially since I got hurt during the hike. In true me fashion, I rolled my ankle mid-hike at Palo Duro. Getting injured "después de viejo" is absolutely insane. I've had minor sports-related injuries, but never had I gotten hurt to this extent. (I am writing this post months post-injury, and I am still recovering, attending physical therapy.) Quick snapshot of our trip, below.

I couldn't possibly fit everything there is to do and see in this list, but it could be a good starting point for anyone visiting for the first time. We stayed at the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, which offers free breakfast and has an indoor pool.
Coming back, we got caught in a gnarly sandstorm, to the point we could barely make out the road ahead of us, and power went out in the area. That meant we couldn't get fuel, which, of course, we were low on. Thankfully, we found a town with power and were able to fill up the tank!
Despite the mishaps, it was such a fun trip. We love to explore new places. Let's see where the rest of the year takes us!
